Melissa Cope- 3rd Grade

Dear Parents,
Welcome to BES! I will be teaching your child Math, Science, Social Studies and Health this year. Mrs. Weddon will be co-teaching with me. We will be working together as a team and are asking for your support and cooperation throughout the school year.
This is a very special time in your child’s life. He/She will be learning many new things this year - academic skills, social skills, self-confidence, and responsibility, to name a few. In fact, the year your child spends in the third grade will be one of the most important and valuable years in his or her development.
You play a major role in helping your child reach his or her potentials. Research in the areas of child development points out that most of a child’s intellectual development takes place outside the formal classroom. This means that children spend a great deal of time with their first and most important teachers-their parents. Indeed, as parents, your involvement in your child’s learning experience will have much to do with how well your child succeeds in school and later in life. By working together, we believe we can help your child become the best person possible-socially, emotionally, and scholastically.
A folder will be sent home each Wednesday with your child’s papers from the previous week. Please sign any paper with a grade below an 80, and return ALL papers. My suggestion is to take your child’s papers out as soon as she gets home, read them, discuss them with your child, sign what needs to be signed, and immediately put the papers back in the folder.
Please note that your child will have homework each night, with the exception of Friday, however homework will be assigned over the weekend if the need arises. Please check homework and initial the planner every night as it is a requirement of third grade.
I strongly encourage your active involvement with your child’s education and with our class. If you have any free time or materials to contribute, either would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to working with you and your child this year. If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 706-554-2265. My planning time is 9:25-10:00 If you have any questions or concerns throughout the year, please do not hesitate to contact us. Unless it is an emergency, we would appreciate a note, an email, or phone call requesting a meeting time so that we will be able to give you and your child our individual attention.

Sincerely,

Melissa Cope
