Welcome and Contact Info

     Welcome back to school.  I am part of the 4th Grade team with Mrs. Collins (Math) and Mrs. Smith (ELA).  My subject area will be teaching Science and Social Studies for this school year. I have been teaching Sci/SS the past 7 years and have lived in Burke County for most of my life.  I attended the University of North Georgia and have a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Augusta University.  After 10 years in the Army as a Field Artillery officer, I moved back to Burke County and pursued a teaching career.

     I live in Burke county and I am married to my wife, Monica.  We have two sons that attended Blakeney Elementary and are now in Highschool. My family loves college football "Go Dawgs!!" and traveling.  When not traveling or watching sports, I like to play golf and hunt.

 

Classroom information:

     Everyday we will split the class period 1/2 of the time Science and the other half Social Studies.  On days we have labs, experiments, or projects, we will spend the entire class period completing the task.  Some of the highlights for this year in Science include: Solar System, Light and Sound, Organisms in an Eco-system, Water Cycle, and Simple Machines.  Social Studies highlights include: Geography of the United States, Development of the United States government, Economic Trade, and U.S. historical events from the Beginning of the American Revolution to the end of the Civil War (1756 - 1865).

     Lunch and Resource activity times vary for each class. Mrs. Collins homeroom will be in my class for Resource time (11:40 - 12:20) and Lunch (12:20 - 12:45).  My homeroom will attend Resource time (11:00 - 11:40) and Lunch (12:00 - 12:25).  All of our team classes have recess time (1:15 - 1:35). We will keep you informed of special events and activities.

     Weekly behavior reports will be issued every Tuesday. Each week, for grading and behavior purposes, runs from Wednesday to Tuesday.  Every student will have a minimum of two grades for Science and Social Studies each week.  On weeks we complete experiments or projects, there will be three grades.  I have planning time (11:40 - 12:20) each day. I will communicate through planners, phone calls and the new "ParentSquare."  App. 

     I am a bus driver so it is very hard for me to plan meetings after school.  I can be called anytime if you have a concern.  Please remember that attendance and behavior affect grades, Honor Roll eligibility, and possible retention to 4th grade.  Our team goal is for all students to excel and be prepared for 5th Grade.  I look forward to a great year.
