Mission
The mission of the Blakeney Elementary school library is to
provide a wide variety of print and digital resources
that enrich and support the school's curriculum, while
also providing an environment that encourages a love for reading.

My name is Laura Reeves, and I serve as the Media Specialist at Blakeney Elementary School. This is my 32nd year as an educator. I taught Special Education through Teach For America in Mound Bayou, Mississippi, for two years before coming home to teach high school English at ECI. I began as a Media Specialist at Greenbrier High School, then Screven County High School before coming to Burke County in 2006. I love literature, and providing books to our children.

In addition to being a Media Specialist, I drive a school bus. I also write a weekly column for the local paper, The True Citizen. I enjoy reading, working out, travelling, and most of all spending time with my two lovely daughters, Elsa and Inga.

These are some suggestions for keeping our library books in great condition:

  • Keep books away from food or drinks
  • Wash your hands before reading a book
  • Report all damages to the media specialist or your teacher
  • Use a bookmark for saving your place in a book
  • Never use a pencil for a bookmark
  • Do not turn down pages of a book
  • Keep books dry at all times
  • On rainy days, be sure books are kept in your bookbags or a plastic bag
  • Keep books away from babies and pets
  • Keep pencils, crayons, and markers away from you books
  • Don't write in your book
  • Do not pull labels and/or stickers off the books

  • Report any damages to the Media staff as soon as you can.
